Cynthia has worked as a dialect coach for The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Resurrection, Containment, Constantine, multiple pilots, and the feature films Logan Lucky, Papa, Thank You For Your Service, Felt, Scary Movie 5. She has served as voice/text/dialect coach for the Alliance Theatre Company, Horizon Theatre Company, Actor's Express, Synchronicity Performance Group, Theatre Emory, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Metro Theatre Company, Illinois Repertory Theatre, Georgia Shakespeare and hundreds of individual actors auditioning for and performing in plays, movies and television shows. As an actor she has performed internationally in over 100 plays and appeared in the films Insurgent and 90 Minutes in Heaven, on television in Stranger Things, Vice Principals, Resurrection, Drop Dead Diva, Homeland, Devious Maids, The Vampire Diaries,Tyler Perry's House of Payne and lots of commercials and industrials. She is also a narrator of 50+ audiobooks.
She is a certified Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a member of Actor's Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, and the Voice and Speech Trainer's Association (VASTA).
Cynthia Barrett has served as Head of Voice and Speech for the professional actor training program at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and the department of Dance and Theatre at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. She's also been a visiting faculty member specializing in voice at Emory University, University of California-Davis, University of Illinois, Kennesaw State, Gainesville State, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. She has taught workshops in accent modification, vocal production, and Fitzmaurice Voicework all over the United States.
